The Blasfemia Digital Interview

A conversation with AI Artist Blasfemia Digital, aka @blasfemiadigit on X

INTERVIEW CONDUCTED ON JULY 1, 2024

ALL IMAGES BY BLASFEMIA DIGITAL ARE GENERATED USING MIDJOURNEY AND STABLE DIFFUSION (LOCALLY) UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE

Meet Blasfemia Digital (@blasfemiadigit on X), a phenomenal AI artist from Spain whose work is nothing short of stunning. Under this evocative nickname, he creates art that captivates the viewer with its minimalist elegance, often featuring beautiful women as his central subjects. His pieces are a testament to his mastery of form and composition, making him a standout in the AI art community.

Blasfemia Digital has a profound love for series, particularly featuring angels and Japanese women. Having produced over 500,000 images with AI (a truly mind-boggling feat; I only know of @nickfloats and @chettbff in this category), each piece is meticulously crafted, presented in a vertical format, and almost always framed perfectly by a white border. His elegant and minimalist logo at the bottom center adds a touch of sophistication to every artwork, making his work instantly recognizable.

The attention and love he has for what is “graphic” shines through in his art. As a fellow Graphic Designer myself, also from Europe, I deeply cherish this quality. (Note that, in our context, "graphic" refers not to violence but to the visual aesthetic and design of a given artwork, something that Blasfemia Digital excels at.) His art often carries a visual clarity and beauty that is both striking and refined, and his titles are another noteworthy aspect of his work, each adding depth and context to his stunning visuals.

Blasfemia Digital's dedication to his craft and his distinctive style make him a true luminary in the world of AI art. His ability to blend minimalist elegance with powerful imagery ensures that his work not only stands out but also resonates deeply with those who appreciate the art of graphic design. I am honored and grateful to have him join us for this interview.

Let’s discover Blasfemia Digital together.

The slow evolution of things [Morphosis]

Without getting too personal, can you tell us a bit about yourself?:

I am a web and graphic designer.

Could you please tell us which country you live in?:

I live in Spain.

What led you to begin working with AI imagery?:

I have been a graphic and web designer and the emergence and subsequent access to generative AI showed me that I could express myself in ways I could barely imagine.

What AI tools do you use?:

Midjourney and Stable Diffusion in local.

What inspires you?:

Actually many things, woman in all aspects, the graphic, the visual, the textures and shapes, the typographic fonts, the negative space...arts in all their forms.

A Japanese girl like any other again

In which other medium, if any, do you practice art?:

.

Would you consider AI-generated art true art?:

Of course, nowadays nobody questions an artist who uses a graphic tablet or programs like Photoshop for his creations, and even a musician and the use of electronics in his sessions, and for using such tools nobody is judging them, as it happens with generative AI.

A couple of days ago an artist I follow on Twitter (she is called Tatiana Tciguleva @ciguleva) wrote a very complete and clarifying post about it and I encourage you to read it here.

Please share one or a few of your favorite images with us.:

I’ll share several.

Some of Blasfemia Digital’s favorite images

Do you title your AI-generated art? If you do, what inspires you to come up with these titles?:

For me, to title my images is to close part of a creative circle because what they represent or inspire me helps me in this process, often a mood also influences the title at the time of generating them.

When do you tend to be the most productive, and do you work in long sessions or short bursts?:

Long sessions, especially in the early hours of the morning.

Darkest hour

What type of prompts do you prefer: text or AI-generated descriptions through fed images?:

I don't use tools like Chat GPT much for these questions. I'm not saying that I have never used it, but for me to elaborate the prompt is something more personal.

When prompting with text, do you write simple text-based prompts or complex ones?:

I prefer concise and uncluttered prompts, they work fine for me.

Do you think text-based prompts should be shared within the AI art community?:

I think this point is something that is up to each one to decide. I used to share prompts but in my case, I found no response from people, so I always pretend that what I do is mainly for myself and because I enjoy it. I stopped sharing; however, everyone is free to do it or not and I think that this should not be a reason for controversy.

What is the most unconventional method you have used to create an image?:

What I usually do in my case is to experiment, giving twists to the prompts and mixing techniques or pictorial styles within them, however since the appearance of the --sref and --personalize codes, for me it has been something that has changed my method completely, getting really cool things, for example mixing several --sref codes.

How many images you have generated using AI technology?:

I currently have about half a million images between Stable Diffusion (SD) and Midjourney (MJ)...and counting!

You will have to forgive me, but female fallen angels are my weakness... v3

Please share your X (Twitter) handle with us.:

@blasfemiadigit

Tell us a bit about your X handle and X username.:

I was trying to select Blasfemia Digital (in Spanish) because Digital Blasphemy was already taken and Twitter/X cut it off. Someone in my environment said that what I was doing was against art because it was generated by artificial intelligence, so I thought it was a suitable name and so it came up, the avatar born from an old nickname of mine: barcode.

How many X followers do you currently have?:

Right now 2,900

How many X accounts do you currently follow?:

142

How long have you been on X (Twitter)?:

Since 2022

My sweet Japanese girl

Is there any other online platform where we can view all of your previous work apart from X?:

Yeah. I’m also on Instagram, with 3,200 posts and 6,000 followers.

In this world of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are you currently selling your digital art on any platform? If so, which platform are you using?:

Not right now, but I’m thinking about it.

Are you selling tangible AI-generated artwork, such as high-quality prints like Giclée prints?:

Interesting you should ask, I just found a few days ago a fine art workshop for my prints.

Could you suggest some AI artists you like that we could follow?:

Sure:

Is there anything else you would like to add or share with the AI community?:

Spread Art, not hate.
