The tazibao Interview
A conversation with AI Artist tazibao | SR, aka @Tazibao22 on X
INTERVIEW CONDUCTED ON JUNE 29, 2024
ALL IMAGES BY TAZIBAO ARE GENERATED USING MIDJOURNEY UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE
Meet tazibao (Tazibao22 on X), a one-of-a-kind and award-winning artist from Italy, whose work is firmly rooted in AI photographic artistry. Her muse is the symbolic embodiment of beauty, often captured through the elegance of the female form, and her stunning online portfolio includes categories such as "Vibrant," "Fashionable," and "Bodies," revealing her artistic obsessions and showcasing her incredible versatility and creativity.
Tazibao’s photographic pieces often blur—if not obliterate—the lines between reality and AI-generated art. She exhibits mastery with black-and-white stills, creating images that evoke elegant fashion or the glamour of classic cinema while pushing the boundaries of contemporary digital art. (For me, I would even say that some of her work exudes a certain Hollywood elegance, capturing the timeless allure of icons like Audrey Hepburn and others, and I love it!)
But tazibao is also the queen of color! With a keen eye for high and stylish fashion, she spans the decades, from retro to contemporary, infusing her creations with bright, pop vibes that are both vibrant and visually sophisticated. Her stellar work has been featured in Midjourney Magazine (Issue 13), undeniably cementing her place as a true visionary with a strong sense of graphic visuals, colors, and composition.
As she states on X, "In general, I find that blending geometric patterns with organic shapes is powerfully expressive and heightens visual tension. Zebra stripes/patterns are my favorites.” Tazibao’s signature style is a celebration of color, stripes, artistry, and the power of creative expression, making her a standout in the AI art community—not only on X, but also worldwide. I am honored and grateful to have her join us for this interview.
Let’s discover tazibao together.

This fantastic image is also featured below in Midjourney Magazine (#13), where Tazibao was highlighted—bravo!
Without getting too personal, can you tell us a bit about yourself?:
I'm an IT professional passionate about art, architecture, and photography. AI art lets me cultivate my passions in the small fraction of free time I have.
Could you please tell us which country you live in?:
I live in Italy.
What led you to begin working with AI imagery?:
The desire to experiment with what could have been more than just a passion for me, before my life took a different professional direction. Specifically, a unique form of expressive photography and art.
What AI tools do you use?:
I mostly use Midjourney and Photoshop.
What inspires you?:
Anything and everything, I guess.

In which other medium, if any, do you practice art?:
I love playing with photography, especially portraits. It's a passion that has always been with me.
Would you consider AI-generated art true art?:
I don't believe there's such a thing as AI-generated art; I think it's a bit of a misleading term. It seems more appropriate to call it AI-assisted art. AI is a tool, no more, no less, like a brush, a chisel, a pen, or a camera. Using such tools doesn't diminish painting, culture, poetry, or photography. Similarly, using AI software doesn't devalue the artist's work.
AI-assisted art is 100% true art because it expresses a human perspective. It's actually just another form of expressing it.
Please share one or a few of your favorite images with us.:
I’ll share 10 of my favorite images below.

Do you title your AI-generated art? If you do, what inspires you to come up with these titles?:
I often find myself giving a title to my images, usually before creating them. The choice of title, and thus the subject, is quite instinctive for me, and I tend not to plan what I create.
When do you tend to be the most productive, and do you work in long sessions or short bursts?:
I usually work in the evening or in my spare moments during less hectic days.
Producing images takes a lot of time because achieving consistent photorealism in detail is not easy today. Creating something at least believable and expressive requires patience and a bit of luck, given the current limitations of the tool. Such limitations often necessitate accepting compromises.

What type of prompts do you prefer: text or AI-generated descriptions through fed images?:
I almost always create my own prompts, rarely relying on AI for them. Choosing and arranging words wisely is a form of art in itself, which we call ... poetry ... in another context. It's a way to express oneself, so it's something I don't like to delegate to AI.
When prompting with text, do you write simple text-based prompts or complex ones?:
I usually use complex, sometimes composite prompts. Rarely does a short prompt satisfy me: no matter how perfect and aesthetically striking a concise prompt may be, I often find it a bit impersonal. It's like doing stock art. I prefer to infuse the prompt with a bit of my personal emotions.
Do you think text-based prompts should be shared within the AI art community?:
Good question. Those who share prompts need to do so with the right spirit and approach, which means being educational. This means providing a suggestion, not a recipe. Giving a recipe is wrong and counterproductive because it discourages experimentation and tends to foster sterile and narrow mannerisms. Art is alive only when it is personally experimented with and interpreted.
What is the most unconventional method you have used to create an image?:
Sometimes, I've created ad-hoc sets of complementary images to serve as stylistic references for others I intend to create. There have been instances where a single image used 2, 3, or more of these stylistic references. Other times, I've included fragments of poetry in the prompt or mixed parts in different languages.
How many images you have generated using AI technology?:
Almost 50,000
QT your white & black art
Please share your X (Twitter) handle with us.:
Tell us a bit about your X handle and X username.:
It's inspired by the Chinese tradition of "Dazibao," a kind of mural "manifesto" that serves as a way to express thoughts and dissent publicly and anonymously. To me, it embodies the concept of freedom of expression.
How many X followers do you currently have?:
About 8,000
How many X accounts do you currently follow?:
About 1,400
How long have you been on X (Twitter)?:
I have been actively managing the "Tazibao" account since March 2023. It used to be a "collective" account previously, not devoted to AI art.

Is there any other online platform where we can view all of your previous work apart from X?:
I usually post on X, but I've created a small dedicated portfolio on Hug:
In this world of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are you currently selling your digital art on any platform? If so, which platform are you using?:
I'm just playing and experimenting a bit, on SuperRare, Foundation, Joyn and Objkt.
Are you selling tangible AI-generated artwork, such as high-quality prints like Giclée prints?:
I've had some prints made for myself and a few friends. Additionally, some artworks have become mural stencils. So far, I've never sold prints, but I believe the tactile aspect could add value.
Could you suggest some AI artists you like that we could follow?:
They're so many ... in addition, I believe that subjectivity plays an important role. I wouldn't want to overlook any of my many favorites, so I'd prefer not to make a list.
Is there anything else you would like to add or share with the AI community?:
Yes! Never forget to get excited. Don't be afraid to experiment, be childish at times. Art knows no shame.
