INTERVIEW CONDUCTED ON OCTOBER 5, 2024

Captivated by the beauty of colors and driven by a relentless curiosity, Mohamed Ismail is an AI artist who continually pushes the boundaries of creativity. His work spans the realms of fantasy and science fiction, often blending the two in breathtaking, atmospheric illustrations that are both dramatic and ethereal. His art, much like my own, focuses on AI illustrations, and I find a deep connection to his stunning portrayals of mysterious characters, vibrant light, and—of course—magnificent dragons.

Mohamed’s artistic journey began with his love of photography—a passion that saw him capturing the world through his lens during every vacation. When he discovered the possibilities of AI imagery, it opened up an entirely new dimension of creativity for him. The incredible work of other talented AI artists inspired him to dive headfirst into this digital frontier, where he continues to explore themes of destruction and rebirth, light and darkness, and the duality of existence.

Mohamed’s illustrations often depict fantastical and apocalyptic worlds, filled with spiritual and mythological undertones. His settings, whether dark and foreboding or lit with radiant, colorful light, evoke awe and mystery, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the narratives his art suggests. Themes of renewal, conflict, and the cyclical nature of life and destruction are woven into his compositions, often symbolized through contrasting colors and the interplay of light and shadow.

Beyond his own creations, Mohamed is an active and generous member of the AI art community. He experiments fearlessly, shares sref codes to inspire others, and frequently engages in Quote Tweet challenges (QTs) that spark chains of creativity. His willingness to innovate and collaborate underscores his passion for art and his belief in its power to connect us all.

With a body of work that invites reflection and stirs the imagination, Mohamed Ismail has become a powerful voice in the world of AI art, blending his love for storytelling, dramatic visuals, and the mysteries of existence into creations that inspire and captivate. It’s an honor to feature him in this interview.

Let’s discover Mohamed Ismail together.

The Blue Dragon

Without getting too personal, can you tell us a bit about yourself?:

I’m a Bank Manager by day, but I’m also a proud dad and a big fan of art. I love finding time for creativity and family outside of work—it’s all about balance for me.

Could you please tell us which country you live in?:

I live in Egypt.

What led you to begin working with AI imagery?:

I’ve always loved photography and never go on vacation without my gear. But recently, I came across AI imagery, specifically Midjourney V.3, and it completely opened up new possibilities for me. I got hooked by the incredible creativity I’ve seen from so many talented artists, and it’s been inspiring ever since.

What AI tools do you use?:

Basically, I started with Midjourney, and then I discovered Runway, Remix, and Luma AI. Each one has opened up new creative possibilities, and I’ve been totally inspired by the way these tools let me push my imagination further.

What inspires you?:

I follow so many talented friends on X—of course, I don't need to mention that you're one of them 😉. It’s incredible to see the creativity flow, especially in QT posts. It’s amazing how everyone can take the same subject and interpret it in their own unique way, creating art that reflects their own imagination and perspective.

In which other medium, if any, do you practice art?:

I love doing photography with my trusty Canon and my Insta 360 cam—it’s such a fun way to capture different perspectives and moments.

Would you consider AI-generated art true art?:

Yeah, I may not have the talent for drawing in the traditional sense, if we call that 'true art,' but AI has really helped me—and so many others—express ourselves in a creative way. I believe that every creation is a reflection of the person behind it, capturing their feelings and emotions, and that’s what makes it true art in the end.

Please share one or a few of your favorite images with us.:

Here are some of my favorite images:

For this first one below, I had just started a series about a journey through a futuristic cityscape that transcends the ordinary, merging urban environments with cosmic wonders. It evokes a sense of exploration and discovery within a surreal and interstellar urban setting. I just wanted to imagine a world of my own.

Do you title your AI-generated art? If you do, what inspires you to come up with these titles?:

Most of the time, I come up with titles for my images while I’m creating them—it just feels natural in the moment. But other times, especially when I’m trying out another artist’s prompt or token, I leave them untitled.

When do you tend to be the most productive, and do you work in long sessions or short bursts?:

My work can be pretty stressful most of the time, so creating with AI has become a way for me to unwind. I usually dive into it during breaks or late at night—it’s a great way to relax and let my creativity flow.

The Hunter

What type of prompts do you prefer: text or AI-generated descriptions through fed images?:

I prefer using text prompts because they give me more control over the final outcome. It lets me guide the AI in a way that feels more personal and specific to what I’m envisioning.

When prompting with text, do you write simple text-based prompts or complex ones?:

I usually start with a very simple prompt and then build on it layer by layer—things like lighting, color palette, and mood. It’s almost like watching the image grow and evolve right in front of me.

Do you think text-based prompts should be shared within the AI art community?:

It really depends on the artist. If they choose to share their prompt, it’s generous of them, and I’ve learned so much from those shared prompts in the creative process. It’s a great way to grow and explore new techniques.

What is the most unconventional method you have used to create an image?:

Sometimes, I like to mix things up by using Midjourney prompts on other platforms or vice versa—it’s a lot of fun! I also love pushing the boundaries of Midjourney by experimenting with variables like --c, --s, and --w. These are amazing tools that help break free from the usual limitations and lead to some truly unbelievable new art.

How many images you have generated using AI technology?:

I have generated over 20,000 images.

Is there any other online platform where we can view all of your previous work apart from X?:

Yes, you can find me on Instagram.

In this world of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), are you currently selling your digital art on any platform? If so, which platform are you using?:

As I mentioned before, this is more of a hobby for me. I haven’t tried selling my digital art yet, but I’d love to give it a shot at some point.

Are you selling tangible AI-generated artwork, such as high-quality prints like Giclée prints?:

No.

Could you suggest some AI artists you like that we could follow?:

This is tough to answer. I have many people who inspire me and I truly love their art. I know that I will forget most of them, but I will try to suggest the following ones. Everyone has his unique style, and of course, I won't mention you, @revelinai, as it is obvious you are a talented friend.

Is there anything else you would like to add or share with the AI community?:

Yes! We have a unique AI art community with all the people supporting each other and inspiring each other. I really admire every participation and every single art as I feel it is a small piece of everyone's soul; I guess I'm lucky to know a lot of such amazing friends. Thanks, everyone, and finally, thanks for your call; it really made my day! I wish you all the best, and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 😍
